Wembanyama was born on 4 January 2004, in Le Chesnay, in the Paris region. His father, Félix, is Congolese and was a track and field athlete who competed in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Born in Belgium, he acquired French nationality by naturalization on 10 February 2003.
